Pets and animals, Pets for adoption
by Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society

Princess is a 3-year-old with a wonderful personality. She is living at the PetSmart adoption center in East Greenbush and has been a big hit with the volunteers there. They’ll miss Princess but would be happy to see her go home soon with a new family. The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society has been providing shelter for lost, abused and unwanted animals since 1887. Its animal care facility is the largest in the Capital Region, receiving an average of more than 9,000 animals per year. The society hosts adoption centers at PetSmart stores in East Greenbush and Glenmont, with hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The society's animal care facility is at 3 Oakland Ave. in Menands. It's open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. It's closed major holidays. Adoption fees are on a sliding scale of $120 and up for dogs, $75 and up for cats. Senior and special-needs animals' adoption fees are $25 and up. All fees include spay/neuter, rabies and distemper vaccinations, microchip, deworming, flea treatment and heartworm testing for dogs and FIV/FeLV testing for cats. To reach the society, call 434-8128 or visit its Web site at www.mohawkhumanesociety.org. Submitted April 27, 2007

About this Pets for Adoption album

This gallery has been created for the Capital Region’s shelters to share photos of the many animals available for adoption.

To be included, shelters should upload images of available pets including their names as well as details about the shelter, including address, relevant fees, and contact information like a phone number, e-mail address and Web site. Shelters also should update these captions when animals are adopted.

Note to readers: the Times Union does not take responsibility for out-of-date listings. This link at timesunion.com/life/pets.asp provides a list of numerous shelters that have available animals.
