The Half Moon, built in 1989, is actually the second replica of the original Halve Maen, the ship which in 1609 Henry Hudson sailed up the river that now bears his name. The first replica of the Halve Maen was built in Holland in 1909 and presented as a gift to America to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Hudson's voyage. That ship eventually was docked in Cohoes and was destroyed by a fire in 1934.
