Kevin Manieri, East Greenbush resident and member of the Hampton Manor Action Group, rakes invasive species from Hampton Lake. The group gathered 20 volunteers on Saturday, August 6, for a community weed pull. Rensselaer Land Trust provided technical assistance and loaned equipment for the event.

A recent Rebuilding Warriors Fundraiser held at the Nassau Sportsman's Club raised over $33,000 to help provide service dogs to our Nation's Heroes suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury or amputation.  Special thanks to the Rensselaer Elks #2073 for their help in staffing the event.

Justin Pangburn, #2 on East Greenbush Sorensco Falcons Mickey Mantle Team, playing shortstop on Saturday, July 9 in East Greenbush.  Justin caught the last out of the game, winning 5-2 over Burnt Hills.  The State Tournament continues today and tomorrow in East Greenbush and Clifton Park.

On Sunday, June 12, 2016 Rensselaer Elks Lodge #2073 held our 58th annual Lodge Flag Day Ceremony with approximately 75 people in attendance, including 6 veterans.  The program included the history of the American Flags presented by Boy Scout Troop #41 (which we sponsor).  Patriotic music was performed by Laura Haney of Columbia HS.  We also recognized one Americanism essay winner, Jackson Collins, and eight local high school seniors who were each awarded $500 scholarships:  Noah Boland, Samara Holmes, Joseph Somerville, Kristen Singleman, Gabriel Stephan, Cassandra Costa, Ryan Lansing, and Alexandra Stuto.

Author and anti-bullying activist Aija Mayrock visited Woodland Hill Montessori School on Tuesday, March 15. Aija started writing a book at age 16 after experiencing bullying firsthand, beginning in third grade. She self-published The Survival Guide to Bullying when she was 19. It is now published by Scholastic.

As part of the DEC’s “A Day in the Life of the Hudson River” Woodland Hill Montessori School teachers Christine Caruso and Stephanie Puchner entered the river with seine fishing nets at the Rensselaer Boat Launch. Their class of three- to six-year olds stood on the banks with their parents and watched as they dragged the net.
