Author and anti-bullying activist Aija Mayrock visited Woodland Hill Montessori School on Tuesday, March 15. Aija started writing a book at age 16 after experiencing bullying firsthand, beginning in third grade. She self-published The Survival Guide to Bullying when she was 19. It is now published by Scholastic.

As part of the DEC’s “A Day in the Life of the Hudson River” Woodland Hill Montessori School teachers Christine Caruso and Stephanie Puchner entered the river with seine fishing nets at the Rensselaer Boat Launch. Their class of three- to six-year olds stood on the banks with their parents and watched as they dragged the net.

The 8th graders at Woodland Hill Montessori School, along with their teachers, are in New York City attending the Global Citizenship Action Project (GCAP), a professional conference specifically designed for students enrolled in Middle School Montessori programs.  Woodland Hill students have been experiencing and discussing the work of the United Nations and learning what they can do to become better informed and more productive global citizens.
