Cecilia (Cece) Koenig is a 13-year-old girl from East Greenbush, NY who attends Goff Middle School. Her parents are members of Rensselaer Elks Lodge #2073. Cece loves to play soccer as well as any other sport when given the chance. She is an honor student and gives her all no matter what the activity. Cece and her 11-year-old sister, Emily, each won the Rensselaer Lodge competition and advanced to the Elks club 2nd round shootout held at the Red Hook Elks Club a few weeks ago. Emily took 2nd place in a very competitive event while Cece was able to advance to the NYS U14 Elks Soccer Shoot Championship held in Oswego, NY. The girl’s dog, Willie, was unable to participate due to a torn ACL.
The photograph shows Cece accepting her 1st Place Trophy after winning the Oswego Championship Event. Cece will now represent the New York State Elks as she moves on to the Northeast Regional Championship, which will be held in Burlington, VT the weekend of November 4th.

On September 11th, Rennselaer Elks Lodge #2073 celebrated the two newest Eagles, Billy Lindemann and Daniel Farley from Boy Scout Troop #41. They are the 82nd and 83rd Eagle Scouts that have come from Troop #41 since 1964. The Eagle Scout award is scouting’s highest honor, given to only about 1% of all scouts, and requires years of commitment to demonstrate spirit, service and leadership. The very first Eagle from Troop #41, Owen Johnson, attended the ceremony along with several area and town dignitaries who presented the Eagles with certificates.

On Sunday, September 18th members of the Rensselaer Elks Lodge #2073 teamed up with Callanan Industries, Inc. and the community for a fundraiser to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The event – Ride with Mike – featured a 49-mile motorcycle ride followed by a picnic at Henry Hudson Park which hosted roughly 200 people and raised a total of $13,835 for LLS. The Lodge helped sponsor the event, providing the cooks for the day from 11 AM – 2 PM and also donated $200 to the cause.

The event was organized on behalf of Mike Walsh who is the brother of longtime Elk member, James Walsh. Mike was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma three months ago and has completed six treatments during his battle. Mike didn’t wish to accept any funds directly and instead selflessly suggested that the proceeds go to LLS to help others in their fight with cancer. On behalf of the entire Rensselaer Elks Lodge, our thoughts, prayers and support are with Mike and his entire family.

This is a picture of my daughter, Sarah Hayes, and my new son-in law, Benjamin Sperry at their wedding on August 15 2015. Regardless of the weather these two had eyes locked on each other. This microburst was one of three during the ceremony at Colonie Country Club. Luckily all were safe and the amazing photographer, Rob Spring, was able to capture this life long memory.
