Congregation Beth Emeth welcomed Charlotte Bonelli, the author of “Exit Berlin”, to their annual Sisterhood -Brotherhood brunch Sunday morning, Dec 7. The book describes how Arnold Hatch, who lived in the U.S., worked with his cousin Luzie against time and bureaucratic obstacles to get relatives out of Nazi Germany. The book has strong Capital Region connections: Arnold Hatch Sr's son was married to the late Gloria Hatch, a longtime Albany resident and CBE member. Sunday's event was dedicated to her memory. In researching the book, the author found a trove of legal records in the CBE archives with assistance from Pat Snyder and the late Addie Muhlfeder, former CBE archivists. Rabbi Scott Shpeen introduced Ms. Bonelli who spoke to over 170 at the brunch catered by the CBE Brotherhood.
